Resilient Roots: Circles of Belonging
As an artist in residence I motivate to explore life, connection, and transformation through collective making. I am grounded in the belief that we are shaped by both ancestry and community, and through this work, I bring together individual and shared processes to reflect the cycles that sustain us.
The project unfolds through interconnected installations that center natural materials, cultural memory, and participatory action. In Circles of Belonging, We use individual embroidery hoops as symbolic root systems. Each circle holds a personal gesture, yet together they form a living network—expanding into a shared tree that represents unity, inclusion, and the strength of multiculturalism.
This collective foundation extends into Peace, Piece by Piece, an interactive installation where a large peace sign is a vessel for community participation. Visitors are invited to contribute natural materials—plant-dyed sawdust, dried flowers, and organic remnants—allowing the work to evolve through many hands. Each addition, no matter how small, becomes part of a larger whole, reflecting my understanding of peace as an ongoing practice rather than a fixed state.
Together, these works form a continuous reflection on belonging, interdependence, and care. I see roots becoming circles, circles becoming collective structures, and collective action becoming a living expression of peace. Through this project, I invite viewers to recognize that strength is not individual, but relational—built through shared presence, exchange, and the slow, meaningful accumulation of many voices.
